In Northern Ireland farming is a massive industry which has become much more high tech over the past few decades. Our farming grandfathers would laugh at our apps, computers and monitoring systems which have increased yield and allowed for better farm management. Earlier this year Farmers Weekly wrote about their favourite Farming Apps which can be used on an i-phone or smart phone. Here are most interesting the ones which we think deserve to be high lighted.

Met Office Weather App

screen322x572A reliable weather app in invaluable and the Met Office Weather app is probably our favourite. It has lots of features and function – maybe a few too many- but once you have go tto grip swith the things that you need this app becomes really useful.

It is up to date, quick and a detailed 5 day forecast (and we mean detailed) and hourly updates.

The best news is that it is free – Farmer or not we think this is an app essential.

Yara CheckIT App

screen568x568Not just for farmers but for anyone with an allotment or greenhouse this app has a databank full of photos and information about crops which you can use to compare with your crops.

Identify what is attacking your plants, or what is deficient in your soil and get advice on how to treat it – if will even recommend fertilisers.

FARMgraze

screen568x568-2FARMgraze offers a free version and a paid version with better features, meaning that you can download it and play around with it before you commit to any purchase.

This app works to maximise your grass and help you save money on feeds and fertilisers. It is a basic management programme which is simple and effective especially of you have livestock grazing in various locations. It also provides tips and prompts designed to help you.
